Introduction
The University Teaching Center at the University of Arizona is currently supported by a Demonstration Project grant awarded by the United States Office of Postsecondary Eduation. Through PEEL, the UTC chose to strategically focus on college studnets with disabilities, a long-neglected population of diverse learners. Student with disabilities frequently do not have equitable access to post-secondary education. Futher, when students with disabilities gain access to a college education, only rudimentary mechanisms exist to facilitate their success in post-secondary environments.
The UTC is assisted in performing PEEL grant activities by the Disability Resources Center and the Strategic Alternatives Learning Techniques (S.A.L.T. Center for Learning Disabilities). The primary goal of the PEEL grant is to facilitate the success of diverse post-secondary learners, espcially those with disabilities. The PEEL grant seeks to accomplish this goal by infusing existing faculty and administrator development efforts with state-of-the-art information on learner-centered education.
